CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Our Class Descriptions provide guidelines for all ages and abilities.  Keep in mind that age ranges are flexible as we build our classes on technical ability and strength as apposed to age.  All classes are open to Adults.  Please view our MiniRhythms page for information regarding our tots and My Gym programs.

 


LEVEL 1/2 BALLET TECHNIQUE
This level of Ballet Technique introduces students to the ballet barre and center floor exercises with emphasis on language and basic technique.

LEVEL 3 BALLET TECHNIQUE
This level is designed to teach students the classical line of ballet combined with technical skill and strength.

LEVEL 4 BALLET TECHNIQUE
This level is designed to increase technical skill and strength as well as grace, balance and performance ability.  This level also introduces dancers to pointe work.

ADVANCED LEVEL V BALLET TECHNIQUE
At this level, students combine their technical strength and stamina with elegance, musicality and beauty of movement.  Performance during class as well as on stage is refined.

BEGINNING ADULT BALLET
This level is for the beginner that is older, mature and more coordinated than a younger beginner and may have had other dance training in the past. This class will focus on terminology, body alignment, core strength and basic technique including turns and leaps.

JAZZ 1 TECHNIQUE
This class is an intro to Jazz, a fun, upbeat dance style that consists of turns, leaps, kicks and stylized movements.  Kids will stretch, learn technique across the floor and learn beginning level dance routines.

JAZZ 2 TECHNIQUE
Jazz is a fun, upbeat dance style that consists of turns, leaps, kicks and stylized movements. This class will include stretching, strengthening, jazz technique, and dance routines. Recommend to be taken with ballet, but not required.

TURNS AND LEAPS (LEVEL 3/4)

This class will focus on stretching and strengthining and will introduce students to upper level turns and jazz technique.  2-3 years of proor ballet or jazz experience recommended.

BEGINNING ADULT JAZZ
Adult students will learn style, flexibility, isolations, and a variety of kicks, leaps and turns. This class will explore different characteristics, concepts and techniques of jazz dance.

INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED MODERN
Modern dance technique is designed to develop the mind, body and spirit to be an expressive communicator through dance and movement. Structured technical exercises that condition the body for strength, coordination and flexibility are developed. Physical activities which focus on the aspects of space, time, shape, and movement dynamics are explored.

CONTEMPORARY

This type of dance combines technique and style from many dance genres in an attempt to explore the natural energy and emotions of your body through the music.

AFTERSCHOOL HIP HOP CLUB
The Afterschool Hip-Hop club is a discounted after school program that offers kids ages 6-10, a positive, confidence-building, creative outlet for their energy.  Kids will be provided with a snack, homework help or activities and a breakin'/hip-hop class each day.

KIDS HIP-HOP/BREAKIN' LEVEL 1/2
Introduces students to hip-hop breakin' and street dance styles.

KIDS BREAKIN' LEVEL 3/4
This class continues working on breakin' and floor work but focuses on harder moves, and combinations. Must have basic breakin' experience (top rocks, 6 steps, cc's and freezes) to enroll in this class. Come dressed in loose fitting clothing and clean tennis shoes.

KIDS HIP-HOP LEVEL 3/4
This class will focus on choreography at an intermediate level. Students will learn about musicality, rhythm, and isolations in several hip-hop styles.

ADVANCED HIP-HOP
Hip-hop is a high energy dance form originating from the streets.  Classes will include floor work, choreography, dance routines with specialty and stylized moves.  Come ready to learn.

BEGINNING IRISH DANCE
Beginner students will start out learning and mastering basic techniques: foot placement, balance, posture, musicality and terminology. Learn several basic dances plus some stories and history of Irish dancing.

MUSICAL THEATER

This class will focus on singing, acting, improve, theater games and more.


BALLROOM CLASSES

Kids Ballroom
Even little ones can learn to dance like the stars!  No partner necessary to learn this classic dance style.

Intermediate Ballroom
Expand your dance vocabulary and learn new moves so you can dance with confidence and grace.  No partner necessary.  Should have some previous partner dancing experience

Beginning Argentine Tango
No dance experience required. Starting off from square one, you will develop a strong foundation and master all of the basic tango moves: walking, embrace, good tango posture, axis (balance), and navigation skills (floor craft). No partner necessary

Kinesiology/Body Mechanics for Dancers and Athletes
Kinesiology is the study of the human body's movement.  The goal of this class is to  expand understanding of the human body.

Latin Workout
Workout while having fun in this upbeat dance based exercise class.  Learn the basic steps of several Latin dance styles.

Salsa
This class will introduce the basic footwork, style and musicality of Salsa before moving on to more complicated turns and patterns and what it means to lead/follow. You do not need to bring your own partner.

Beginning Ballroom
This class is designed for the complete beginner.  Learn the basic steps and concepts of ballroom dancing and learn how dance with a partner.  No experience necessary.  No need to bring your own partner.
